Just from feel, my trans doesn't freewheel? until VERY low speed,under 5/10 km's if you are rolling down the hill I suspect it would have be a very steep descent before it became an issue.

Gears don't bother me,I live in the burbs so stop start traffic isn't an issue,to be honest I kinda like the idea of gears on my scoot just for the higher top speed....
