These cases are tough. I didn't lock one down and it fell off at 60 mph then slid about 150 feet fully loaded (lost a couple of good bottles of wine). All I had to do is replace the hinges.

They can keep the iphone. Rode 10 hours in tropical storm in Texas last month. My treo was completely soaked. I removed battery and let it air dry. It's still kicking.
