Its just forward of the indent (towards the front) where the rear shock sits. The spot welds can be seen in the photo. So essentially its between the indent and the row of spot welds.

Sounds like you have side loading on the bearings which can destroy them quickly. When the bearings are seated during the installation they should have slight pressure on the internal spacer. If not...

Standard needle on the E has the wrong taper. Maybe good for emissions. Change it to an EMN needle and the lean hesitation is gone as long as the accelerator pump is working.

Oil flow to the head at idle with an in spec system is ok. Many XR600's, XL600's XR650L's, and NX650's are used for commuting and sit at traffic lights idling for extended periods without top end...
