It does well enough, especially for a 17" tire. It has great grip, and handles wonderfully on the road as well. Of course, it doesn't track as well offroad as a 19" tire, but... I'm more than happy...

From what I can tell, the stock hub will be fine as long as you have Woody fix the bearings. Strength is much more of an issue with the rims; the stock ones will take whatever you throw at them...
