Personally, I'd stick with 17" rear wheel cause its a very popular size, in general.

My gen 1 KLR came with a Moose Racing 300watt hi output stator installed by the OP. I can run my Gerbing jacket liner and heated grips at the same time but have to turn off the headlight or it drops...
