It's easy to remove from the housing. The tapered tip can be cleaned with brake clean or WD40 or some such. You'd be surprised how much crap can clog up in there.

I've reused mine for 100k worth of sprocket changes. I use a little blue locktite just to make sure nothing backs off. Just employ some common sense when deciding for yourself.
