I have both an Enduro and a Mega Moto and it is equally an issue with both bikes, but you are correct it should be no problem if you are not carrying anything on the rear of the bike behind the seat.

I had a very similar problem on my R1100rt, it turned out to be a broken wire on the bottom of the ignition switch and if I moved the handel bars a littel I could get it to start but move them again...

If I remember right it was about $400, that was for a total rebuild including new spring, re-valve and all new seals. I was trying to get away from constantly having to rebuild the aftermarket shocks...
