I'm no metallurgist but mine look more like casting imperfections than cracks to me. I will check out a new bike still on the showroom and see if it looks like ours.

I had the same problem breaking off the front signals. Bought some shorty style LED signals from Cyclegear and they work great. They are short enough in the stock location to not be an issue.
