I say go for an '83 CB1100F, but find one in better shape.
I've had VFR's and yeah, they're special and all that....blah, blah, blah...
The CB1100F is a one year only bike, a homologation 'special' that will only increase in value, and is a very fun ride considering it's vintage.
I came very close to buying one here in Denver last month - a white/red with 24k and a good strong runner, pretty cosmetically clean. It needed a starter clutch, but started 2/3 the time with no trouble. At $2000 it was probably not a bad deal, but I found the GS for a lot less, in better shape.
