yup, that's is exactly what they're for. Have socket set, spanners, chain splitter, new chain, front sprockets, tire levers, coat hanger, wire etc etc etc. They're made out of 110mm "soil pipe" which is a heavy polypipe for ducting sewage from a toilet. Strong stuff, i hit the edge of a curb as hard as i could with a 1m length - it just bounced off.

the end caps have rubber seals and are glued on the pipes. I have a ton on pics of the install which I should post. I can unscrew the bottom of the tube and have all the tools fall out and then load again from the top again. helped get a lot of weight forward anbd rebalanced the bike, was a bit dodgy before... well, i was carrying 20kg of security chains across London.
