The GM LS series of engines it is roughly based on use hydraulic roller lifters even in the CTS-v and Corvette Z-1. I don't see any reason to change that in this application. The ZR-1 revs to 7k rpm. The GL1800 stops at 6k rpm. Pushrods allow the engine to be more compact and reduce the complexity.
