Nope it is fine, I use rok straps no bungees (I like my eyes!), I have had a similar rack on my GS for over a year with various loads from food to fire wood and it has been fine. The 5052 is softer but the piece was reasonably thick.
Once it is finished I will load it up, the only thing is the rack is probably stronger than the amount of load the rack will carry
