Hi RoaringDS, it is definitely a 650r. Same year as mine as a matter of fact. As far as suspension goes... my thoughts are to keep it stock. Mainly because I'm barely 5'4" and also I don't plan on going way overboard when off-roading, mainly fire roads and forest roads. If I do encounter I'm missing out on ds'ing... I'll just have to extend my legs.
And I definitely agree, life's a series of "expensive" learning experiences!
