A Dirty Long Weekend in Skåne (29e - 31e okt, 2010)
This is a link to a ride report, about our most recent shenanigans here in southern Swednavia...
While not strictly a "race" as such, the Dirty Long Weekend has become kinda like the Swedish version of Hogwilds DVR evnt. A multi-day route charted navigational event for rally raid enthusiasts to get together and put in some saddle time... Obviously there is a lack of desert style terrain in Scandinavia to ride, but we try to compensate with some fun gravel roads, forestry trails and a fair bit of enduro terrain... even the odd grasstrack/motocross test as well. Sort of a proxy end of season, offroad weekend -cum- navigation rally for a number of get together, a fun opportunity to discuss the coming season and prepare bikes and stuff before heading off to various rallies about the globe the following spring.
The first DLW (in 2005) was a ride that gave birth to the idea for the Destination Down Under/Team Sweden Challenge in 2007 (that Annie Seel, Olle Ohlsson and I put together);
The idea was to get a team of moto riders down to the re-established Australian Safari in august of 2007 in WA. Subsequently there have been a number of participants in Australia for the Safari from Sweden, since that time;
Pelle Wallentheim and I competed with the Garland/ISUZU team in 2007, then Pelle and Olle competed again with Garland's team in 2008, as well as Micke Berglund; who rode a rental Honda CRF 450 from GHR, and then in both 2009 and 2010 Annie rode with Safaribergs
Husaberg team and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
From DDU we sent a team of four Swedish riders to the 2008 TUAREG Rallye in Marocco.
In 2009 there were another three Swede's who went down and rode the TUAREG (after being part of DLW 2008)... their first desert rally ever.
This year (2010) there were a total of 18 swedish riders at the TUAREG Rally (all but one) of whom have been part of DLW/DDU movement over the past four years.
In 2011 there are atotal of no less than 20 swedish Riders heading down to ride the TUAREG Rally in March... and five of whom were amongst the participants on Dirty Long Weekend 2010...
Anyway, I thought I'd put up some photo's for you to gander at, and those that are interested can check the link out.
This is what we got up to;
