Isn't it all about what you want? The way I see it, the 650L & the KLR are all ok if you are ok with the way they come from the factory. They have limitation on how far they can be "built"....suspension, motor, weight, etc. All good reliable bikes. You're a big guy. I think you would see a real difference riding an L.
I hear that the 650L is really popular in Russia.
There are (6) 650Ls on KSL right now.
