Same engine as g650x and all rotax 650 singles (kinda)...with a few different bits..like less HP, more electrical power. Bigger stator would rob some HP so that makes sense to me...some new european standard next year for bikes with 48hp,

You may be correct. It's mostly an academic concern but I just highly doubt that they've pulled engine production from China that quickly, after only one year. I had read somewhere ( I can't find it) that BMW had a longer contract with the Chinese. Tooling up anew to build the same motor in Germany seems crazy.
Nothing in the BMW MC MAG cited says anything about it. All they say is that the bike is assembled in Germany. I don't doubt that. Previously, Aprilia had that honor, apparently.
There's nothing wrong with the Chinese motor, by the way. Probably better built than the others !
