Versys Adventure set up mods

After many months of development we finally got the Versys modified to an adventure bike set up. Got the 2009 brand new last summer for $5,200.

Recommended mods to consider:

The stock forks are flat out dangerous off road. They pack and wont rebound before the next rock or bump and then the front end gets deflected out of control when the front end is out of travel.

Suspension: Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 kit with 8" of travel and set up for adventure riding:

Oil level 110 mm 5 wt
Springs 7.0 KG x 315mm
Range of adjusters is 4.5 turns
Compression valve 3 Rebound valve 3

Elka Custom 3 WAY rear shock with adventure dampening rates 1/2" longer eye length and 2" more rear wheel travel and hydraulic preload adjustor and adjustable length for ride height:
Stock shock is 300mm long, 52mm travel (248mm compressed)
We have a 312.5mm long shock with 64mm travel with or without adjustable length
  • Adjustable length
    • Extended 312mm +/-5
    • Travel 64mm
    • Compressed 248mm +/-5
    • 6" long 900 kg rear spring
    • 25% compression reduction from street valve rates for adventure riding
    • 33% rebound reduction from street valve rates for adventure riding

Woodys Wheels ( the stock hubs packed with mud and would be badly out of balance once you hit the pavement):
Custom Radd Cush Hub superlaced tubeless sealed excel rim:

Woodys 19" superlaced tubeless front wheel with 1" raised fender:

Kildala BMW800GS Rad guard with custom mount bracket:

A must for dusty riding:
Uni AST-4200 angled 2" pod filters added to the intake stacks in the motor.
We have found plenty of dust getting past the stock filter:

Fast way pegs with BMW F800 GS shifter arm welded to stock pivot gives much better position and adjustment range for shifter as well as allowing the shifter knob to pivot like a dirt bike. Also note the BRP chain guide needed for the extra rear suspension travel:

Kick stand needs to be 2" taller so for now we got a plastic block bolted to an aftermarket wide foot. We will cut and re-weld the kickstand to the right length after we got the adjustable ride height on each end tuned in:

Rox Risers, Pro Taper Fat bars, Cycra hand guards:

Rear mud flap using 2 dirt bike mud flaps side by side ( Gorilla tape is really not needed):

SWMotech engine guard:

Many standard upgrades like the Givi large screen, custom seat, frame and engine guards, HB luggage mounts for Pelican cases etc.
