I left the battery box in place (and all the wires and junk) but it gave enough to allow me to remove the stock shock. The Wilbers shock went in much easier since its a bit less volume than the stock unit.

We got rain and snow in SoCal but I plan to ride it today.

Thanks for that bit of info,I decided to go the other way and that was a pain.
