Well, these folks are not liars. Not a one of them.

If there is a mistake there then it is probably mine, and my memory. I've just never known these hunters to go hardly anywhere without handguns along, though the actual hunting was always done with rifles and shotguns. Either they did not take handguns on the Canadian trips, or they had them and were not checked.
