I too understand the gripes. Even riding around in well fuelled areas, I find it a pain to keep filling the tank. Never mind on an adventure of sorts.

But I can also appreciate how much a an aesthetic downgrade a clear tank, or a colour plastic tank would be. After all the original tank is the only painted piece on the bike. (aside from the beak). Would it not be possible to have the tank professionally painted to match factory paint? Or are we not there yet with technology when it comes to painting plastics?
