After Lewis and Clarks encampment we got on the levee road. I have to say rding the levee was fun. No traffic of any kind and a really nice ride. We were riding along and enjoying the scenery and had been for a little while. Out of the blue comes this place! Fort De Chartres. Very interesting place. We met some grounds keepers that were very nice who shared some of the history with us. We walked all over and climbed into the sentry posts and towers. We walked the ruins. Very neat place with a very old history. The oldest standing building in the state of Illinois is here. The powder magazine. Google Fort De Chartres, it is worth a look. We literally road off the levee into the parking lot! And we were the only ones there besides a guy mowing the grounds.
