The current owner called Touratech and said that he was told that all the basic parts are the same except for the lower brackets that attach near the tank (since the GSA tank is wider). Is this correct? If it is I should be able to order the corresponding part and the system should work fine. I would assume that Touratech has some type of internal part numbers for each individual component of the Desierto and would think that comparing these numbers would tell exactly what parts are the same and which are different. I just don't want to buy it and get stuck with a system that doesn't work on my bike because it's major components are different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The major components of the R1200GS Desierto fairings are all the same. As the tech said on the phone, the lower mounts where the fairing attaches to the side panels, or tank are different. These parts would need to be special ordered in Germany, as they are not something we stock in the U.S. It will take some time to research the correct pieces for the conversion, and to get them shipped here. Give us a call and we can get the ball rolling. I have no estimate on the cost of the brackets, we will have to research that as well. Best way to proceed would be to call our customer service line at 1-800-491-2926.
