Prep.... Those were all left-handlers - the kind where you can easily see well beyond the turns, Look at it a little more closely.
I'll do that exact same manuvour to cut the corner and not think a thing about it. When I was younger, I passed cars doing that on Clingman's Dome Rd between Clingman's Dome and Newfound Gap and on the road coming off of Cadillac Mountain outside of Bar Harbor. Recently, I've done it on South Mt....but didn't pass anyone.
