Unless I miss my guess, any leftover (or used) CRF230Ls are going to be deeply discounted because of the availability of the 250L. Don't expect to pay more for the 230 than the 250 -- get whichever model he finds most appealing. The 230 does have some advantages, being 50 pounds lighter and simpler (carb, air cooled). It's down on power compared to the 250, of course.
FWIW, my 230M, rejetted, gets 75mpg even when flogged mercilessly. And I only paid $2990 in 2011 for my leftover 2009 230M, brand new. The M was a poor seller, but it works for me -- knobbies for the summer backcountry riding, and street tires for the commute during the rest of the year.
