His cynicism - and mine -- is well founded. Whenever a yellow flag is thrown, NASCAR spends an interminable amount of time cleaning the track. Yellows last forever, and that's the reason why.

Race after race, they run vast distances without a yellow. Nice clean racing surface.

And then, with 20 or so to go, debris mysteriously finds its way onto the track. It happens too often to be considered a mere coincidence.
