Cheap set of throwovers with homemade supports and a couple of dry bags. Under $200 for enough storage to do a couple of weeks on the road. This setup has worked fine for the last 3 seasons and I can swap from my Sportster (the black one) to my KLX300 in about 15min. It has also worked out fine for my dad (blue bike) even during a month long 7200 mile trip. If hard bags are your thing there are quite a few manufacturers with them but they tend to be spendy.
