radial spokes don't deliver torque to the rim effectively, as the torque vector is perpendicular to the spokes... that applies to both torque from hub braking and engine acceleration. so that torque is causing the spokes to 'wind up', and they likely will fail a lot sooner than normally spoked wheeels, where the spokes come off the hub flange at near a tangent angle.
