You know Devs, you've made me ask a couple of questions here. I ride in the boonies more often alone than not. The fact I was outside of reasonable rescue with a few niggling issues happening to the bike on the UPAT made me ditch the lower section until a better time.
I think solo riding is possible and rational -- otherwise many times I'd get no dirt. However, riding with Anton the other day proved something to me. You can ride a lot further and a lot harder with a good support team. There was only one minor incident on my ride with Anton. Part of the route took us over old slippery logs that were once bridge abutments. I lost traction on a steep one coming out of a stream crossing. I suspect I'd eventually have figured it out. Anton was off his bike in seconds, heaving the rear up and over the obstacle.
You picked an excellent crew for your ride. Anton is an intelligent maniac who will ride anywhere, and the ClamMan is a really good planner and a good friend. Anyone who will run Moose Alley in the dark to help a friend has my sincere respect.
I hope to see you next year, healed and happy. None of us ever go out thinking we'll get hurt. It's nice to know that when you do, all the stops get pulled to bring you home.
