I've been in Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, etc etc, South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho often (both by bike and car) and nothing happened, despite all the warnings from 'concerned people' (you know them, the type who gives advices based on non-experiences and filthy rich tourists who are mugged...
) nothing happened.
Just use your common sence and be aware. And above all... Enjoy the trip - in every aspect!
