I've even used overmitts on a motorcycle without ill effect. Lobster gloves sound like they wouldn't be much of a problem.
When riding in the cold, think hard about your baselayer, first and foremost. Heavyweight long underwear and a balaclava can easily add 10 degrees or more to your comfort range. In fact, a balaclava alone can easily add 10 degrees to your comfort range - ask my chilly and larcenous spouse, who stole mine on our mid-October road trip.
