I usually try to blast out in front of everyone and find great spots to take pictures as the riders pass. This one location I had in mind was at a slight elevation that would show the rider plus the dust of all behind him.

I jump off the bike, grab the camera and focus in on the first dust plume.

But it’s not moving.

Radio call…Todd is down.

I hustle back to find him and his bike powder coated in the late summer high desert talc.

His bell was rung good. Bike mostly survived other than a trashed odometer. Erik was following Todd and said when he arrived Todd’s bike was completely turned around and upside down, setting on the seat and handle bars like when you serviced the chain on your bike as a kid. What are the odds of that?!

Todd wasn’t quite sure what happened but remembers his front wheel tracking up the bank of the trail before everything went sideways. He was okay but felt the pain for the next couple days.

Still heading south we ride up trail 15 which turns messy about here but has a great view looking back to the north. Here’s Kiwi James:

Todd still shaking out the dust.

Erik railing the 450.

Eric B. on the DRZ.

Eric P. on the 530.

James V on the 650 tractor.

Dave owning the mighty KLR.

Dale on the nimble WR 250.

And Bad Cowboy lifting the front wheel to avoid the nasty rocks.

Break time.
