Next day

I'm an early riser so the next morning I got up at 5.30-ish and packed up to go . It was a beautiful morning with almost nothing on the road, so I cracked up the bike and scrambled it out of the wee hollow I'd hidden it in. I needn't have bothered really but I didn't want to be disturbed.

I was passing people who were camping (you just camp where you want in Russia) in starting to move about lighting their campfires and making tea. They all waved as I went by -on a bike in Russia you're too cool for school-and the temperature was just right for riding. I had one of the best rides of my life and arrived at Aktash about 10-ish where the team were just sitting down for breakfast. It was great to see them again. Sorry this is a little misty

I was and still am sorry to have missed the Altai but the taste I had will ensure I return.
