stumble in 3rd @4000 rpm off idle

took the big girl out for her first real off-road test. was on a mission to find the bottom of a trail we often ride on our smaller bikes. good news is i found the trail and had an awesome ride. bad news is i had a weird stumble multiple times during the ride.

2012 990R w/ 1000 miles on the clock. stumble only happened in 3rd gear @ 4000 rpm when coming on throttle from idle. to give you an example, cruising down an incline, at speed, engine braking at 4000 rpm, completely off throttle, then stumble when i came back on throttle. if i was careful and kept the rpm's higher or was on the gas, never had a problem. had no problems doing the exact same thing in 2nd or 4th gear at same rpm's.

any ideas?

gotta say i'm really digging this bike. got into a few places today where i questioned my wisdom but the bike did remarkably well and comfortable. even with those crappy stock tires.....

thanks,

laramie
