It was a slowish leak and I didn't have a repair kit with me (always do now) so I was able to ride from gas station (I was after their compressor not the gas) to gas station keeping an eye on the tyre pressure until I got back to civilisation and a bike shop to fix the tyre.
So you got lucky having access to compressors on the escape route. In a similar situation I had to rely on the bicycle pump strapped to the frame. Took me 30-40 mins of pumping for every 6 km. Still beated pushing the loaded bike, but I didn't made it home before dark.
