That is where I use them.
I am not too familiar with Mentos packages but I figured they are made of plastic.
As such, I think they would not last as long as tin cans would in the way I use them.
At least that is what I think,,,.

After I put up that smart assed comment I had second thoughts that was where you were coming from. I think that maybe the "hinge" on the Mentos tube might fail over time. However, I don't think it would keep the cap from snapping on. Also unless you smash them with something very heavy I don't think you would crush one.
