It looks like someone has replaced the stock spring with the one you have. That is probably why the attachment point broke, it's too tight.
I think the stands on the E & S are the same. Here's a photo of the springs on my S. Notice how long the ends are.

this parts diagram for a 2001 E. They look just like mine. You can order them from Ron Ayers. A little over $9 + shipping.
