Remove this tray and the larger standard GS battery fits.
Jim, thanks a lot. If I had known the OEM batteries were a weak point on these bikes, I certainly would have looked at the aftermarket options prior to leaving for LatAm. I've added it to my list of things to do when I get home.

For posterity, the specs on the GSA battery that came out of my bike and the GS battery that went in are as follows.

GSA:

BMW PN: 61.21-7 708 614 (61 21 7 708 614)
Mfr (Yuasa) PN: YTZ14S
Capacity: 11.2 Ah @ 10 hrs / 11.8 Ah @ 20 hrs
CCA: 230 A SAE / 150 A EN2
Std Charge: 1.1 A x 5-10 hrs
Quick Charge: 5.5 A x 1 hr
Weight: 6.93 lbs / 3.15 kg
Price (USD as of Jan '12): ~$115

GS:

BMW PN: 61.21-7 724 073 (61 21 7 724 073)
Mfr (Exide) PN: LTX14-BS
Capacity: 14 Ah @ 20 hrs (I'm assuming this is the 20 hr measurement, the battery isn't specific)
CCA: 170 A EN2 (again an assumption this is EN2 and not SAE)
Std Charge: 1.4 A x 5-10 hrs
Quick Charge: 7 A x 1 hr
Weight: 10.65 lbs / 4.84 kg
Price (USD as of Jan '12): ~$175

I couldn't find this information earlier, so hopefully this will help someone in the future.

Matt
