Thanks guys, it IS a very long chair, and a VERY long bike with the links on.

When I started building outfits I worked on a ratio of 20 percent of wheelbase or 9-12 inches, these figures have always served me well and were gained from an old book about mounting old british bikes and sidecars together. The 14 inch figure does seem to match the bike and chair well, the rear of the chassis being level with the back of the mudguard and the front of the chassis loop just shy of the front of the tyre, it really sits well but seemed a big distance.
