NW, thanks for the comments, but I am going to respectfully disagree. I went to the shop to compare, and the Midlands are definitely more rigid. Mostly this is due to the Midlands stiffer sole compound, whereas the Balance has a soft natural rubber outsole. The lugging on the Midland adds slightly to the rigidity, especially the stepped heel. Third, the Midland has plastic toe protectors on the top of the forefoot, which adds to the bend resistance at the toe.
That said, the Balance are NOT flexy / floppy, and also good for standing on the pegs. Probably more comfortable too, because of the leather and the more simple design.
