The new BMW F S/ST looks like a neat bike to own that has a belt drive, that would be a good a mid-size. Can't beat the NC700 for gas mileage and the new 500's look good too.
If you like your scooter I might consider going larger for more road time and then having a big touring bike like a GW, or Electric Glide.
I would also look at Victory Cross Tour or Cross Country.
If you like the Sport Touring crowd I'd definitely look at the new FJR.
