about 4 bikes + 1 car had breakdowns or got stucked in the dunes and had to be assisted. One last bike is being extracted right now, he is in an especially bad spot and has no clutch so he can't move from the spot. We got him on his cell phone and he is even blogging about the experience.
Still 2nd night in the middle of Mauritania is no walk in the park and the weather is not cooperating either. But he'll be out soon.
We had 4 vehicles responding to the situation, spots worked great, we had a perfect read on everyones location. Satellite phones are also great.
We will evaluate after the rally what could have gone better and where the org can improve. The first impression is that we had all the necessary resources (short of a helicopter) and the situation was always under control. This part of Mauritania is as difficult and remote as it gets so to some degree this is a part of the experience.
