Kelso Dunes

By time I depart the depot the wind had lessened. There was still a little dust in the air.

I parked the bike in the empty camping area, grabbed a bag of camera gear, snacks and water, and then headed out into the sand.

There are lots of ups and downs and the distances are much greater than they first appear.

Kelso Dunes & Providence Mountains

I sit at the top of a dune and enjoy the sunset alone.

Wikipedia -
Kelso Dunes, also known as the Kelso Dune Field, is the largest field of eoliansanddeposits in the Mojave Desert. The dune field covers 45 square miles (120 km2) and
includes migrating dunes, vegetation-stabilized dunes, sand sheets, and sand ramps. The tallest dunes rise up to 650 feet (200 m) above the surrounding terrain.

After sunset I race back towards camp trying to beat total darkness.

Even though I was hurrying I kept finding reasons to stop for photos.

It was another cold and bright moon-lit night.
