My hardtail 29er weighs 29 pounds. It's the lighest MTB I've owned in a long time. I rode 40+ pound bikes for years! So to me, a 29 pound bike feels light! It would make a lot more sense for me to drop 40 pounds, then to try and make my bikes lighter...and it would be cheaper!
My 24" Mongoose BMX feels like a feather compared to my MTB! And my kids racing BMX weighs about 13 pounds, it's crazy light.
I saw a roadbike in the shop a few months back, all carbon, electronic shifting, etc. It was 13 pounds too, but also $13,000. No thanks.
