I got a couple of anti fatigue mats from here. http://www.mscdirect.com/browse/?nav...ng&hdrsrh=true

We use several types of these at work in a machine shop . Makes a huge difference. There are several types and thicknesses. I prefer the 7/8" thick for the most cushioning but you can't roll a creeper or motorcycle/atv jack over them, the 1/2 solid one you can somewhat. The ones with holes allows oils and such to fall through and not get the matt all slippery.

Tapered edges are nice for not tripping, you'd be surprised how much that 1/2"--3/4" sometimes gets to be such a problem if a person doesn't lift their feet up when walking. I'm used to mats so it isn't an issue with me catching the edge. If you go with the modular ones you can slowly add more sections to cover a bigger area without having a huge initial investment.
