Thanks to everyone who replied. I got a chance to see a Touratech plate on a 1190 at my local dealer (Scuderia West). It seemed pretty good so I bought one and installed it last night. Phew! Quite a task. Having to move the foot pegs was a hassle; man that spring is hard to get back in! It got a lot easier after I found this:
I do like the idea that the plate is kept away from the engine case. However, Touratech reduces that benefit by having the top bolts on the front of the plate almost touch the case. I noticed this on Scuderia's bike:
On my bike, I cut down the bolts a few millimeters so avoid any contact with the engine case.
