Don't know for sure how the sign got like that. It's been the "Ear" Inn for at least 15 years. By the way, it's the oldest continuously serving pub in NYC. The edge of the Hudson used to come right up to the side of the building. They still have the boat moorings in front of the place (which you can see right behind the rear wheel of my Rossi Replica)!
