AFAIK, Specialized has designed all their own stuff and not acquired anyone. Per a bit of googling, they are still majority owned by the founder, although they sold a significant minority interest to Meridia of Taiwan, who has been one of their principal suppliers all along.

I was under the impression that Keith Bontrager sold the name and his skills to Trek and moved out of frame production. His choice.
