Sounds like there was something amiss with the bike. Gearing changed? Running lean? Something was wrong with it.

I took mine out on Sunday and did a few backroads not too far from me. I had no trouble doing 40 MPH and faster, on paved and unpaved roads.

If you're used to a bigger bike, it's not going to kick you in the pants in the same way. But if you rev the engine out, she'll move.
