someone knows if DR650 FMF Q2 Series Exhaust (http://www.kientech.com/DR650FMFQSE.htm) is omologueed in europe/italy? otherwise what exhaust advice me?
As another alternative, you might look into fitting a muffler from a Suzuki GSXR1000, as outlined here: http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=621199 Dynomometer tests show this to be a good swap. Lighter and better flowing than stock. Plus, it says "Suzuki" on the side, if that matters to you...
First of all it won't fit your bike, it is for the DR650SE (SP46), 96+. It is also not E approved, like pretty much every exhaust made in the US. As mentioned, Hessler is a good source to find parts in Europe (although I didn't have a good experience with him - very high prices and month long waiting times for parts). I would think about this again. There is a much smaller selection of exhaust for the old DRs, especially if you want homologated. They will cost you almost 300. The GSXR muffler has all the above mentioned advantages, plus it has an "E" and Suzuki marking on it and looks like stock, so the police is not very likely to say anything. Thats is why I am going to put the GSXR system on my bike.
Another good one I hadn't thought of - stock tank, where is the breather or does it just breathe via the gas cap?
Check the choke cable. It might be sticky and not allowing the enrichener to seat. And the stock tank vents through the cap.
Anybody know what size, (style), whatever of crampbuster, you'd use if you've got barkbusters on your DR?
I entirely agree with LukasM. I have a FMF Q muffler on mine and it's loud. Too loud for my city riding AND me. I have heard, seen a GSXR can, and spoken to the owner, on a '07 DR and that's what I'll be putting on mine. Mate it with one of mx_rob's (an excellent person to deal with and thoroughly recommended) flat slide carby's and you have as good a combination as you will ever get - torque, economy, homologated (street legal), nice sound (which I know is subjective) and great value for money.
sorry i didn't understand very well.. (my english is not so good jet) you are telling me that on my Sp 44 i can put on the GSXR muffler? (like this? http://cgi.ebay.it/_Ricambi-e-Acces...5389&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318#ebayphotohosting ) advantage/disadvantage? however that's not omologueed i imagine costs?
Mac, I think that you will find that neither the carb or exhaust are street legal in Au. Last I looked at ADRs the exhaust can had to have a data attached with specific manufacturer and model information... and even if it had the OEM exhaust and the info was missing then it could be deemed illegal. The GSX-R cans are missing DR specific data. Also... noise testing in Au is done with a drive-by test. The basic criteria are: speed >=50kph at WOT in a gear and rpm to produce maximum acceleration. It is total noise that is measured. This includes induction, exhaust transmission, chain, tyre and aerodynamic noise plus any squeaks or rattles the bike might have. What this means is that airbox mods, changing the trailwings for a set of 606s, or dropping to a 14T CS can put the bike over the allowable noise threshold. The only legal configuration, AFAIK, for the DR is the one in which it left the factory. Modifications are for off-road use only. HST, the GSX-R muffler looks to be a very good idea (one which I support) for those who are willing to break the rules without running afoul of the enforcers... and their neighbours. Cheers
Short answer is Yes. You will need a new rear pipe (from the centre join to the muffler) for whatever that will cost. Cheers
BTW, here is the link to the GSX-R muffler install by mx_rob on TT: http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=621199
Thanks a million for that wealth of information Andrew. It's always handy to know if, and by how much, we are "outside the rules". We live and learn. Looks like there is a large bunch of us that best look out for Mr. Plod!!! What I found very interesting, as I did the rest of your response, was the fact that tire noise etc. is included in the drive-by test. My damn bike just makes noise out of everything. It's hard to live with but I put up with it 'cos overall it's still the most fun bike I've ever ridden.
