are you having any troubles with the model 60 overheating in the fairing when the bike is not moving or moving slowly?
looking at fitting the model 60 on a 690 rally to replace the standerd halogen high beam. Your light should be a nice simple swap but I was a bit woried it would over heat behind the fairing and light protector.
Can you post some pics of the front of the fairing where the lights are? Perhaps I can offer some options that don't require trimming.
here is a good photo of the same kind of bike showing the light and fairing set up. whats not clear in the phot is the head light protector thats in the fairing. Its the bottom light that i want to replace.
Do these bolts hold the light in? Perhaps I can make an insert that the light will mount in, similar to this.
Just my 2 cents into this, (following for some time) but what is the size of the HID light? and is the LED going to be smaller so that would have air flow around it? Like the product and would love to have one ($$$$)
The model 60 is smaller diameter than the stock light but it would still get no air flow from the front because there is a clear screen attached to the fairing in front of the lights. I don't want to remove the clear screen. The lights bolt to the nav tower not the fairing sanjoh and the bolt holes you pointed out are for the clear screen and fairing mount. Even if we did remove the clear screen that still wouldn't help the air flow if the bike is stationery. What about adding some extra cooling fins? I could tig weld some fins on to the case or turn up an extra big heat sink for the back of the light.
That will work. With our bulkhead mount in place, the lights do not overheat even at a standstill on full power, the bulkhead mount is a 1.6mm thick by 12mm clamp made of stainless, acts as a heatsink.
Ok. 2002 KTM 520exc, Trail Tech 100W DC stator. What's the best way to run with my dimmer switch? Can I just run a 1500 as the low and a 3600 for high? What's the advantage of running your dimmer module?
Yes, that setup will work. The Model 30 (1500 lumens) will likely be too bright at night for other traffic on the road. The dimmer allows you to reduce light output which requires substantially less power to run then a light at full power. For example a model 60 makes adequate light for a low beam at only 3 watts.
OK,one last question. I have a Touratech DE/Xenon on my KTM 950 Adv S. Have you guys mounted any lights in one of these setups? The combo is great on the road. But, I need more light offroad.
